Ex-Black Stars Coach Chris Hughton Opens Up On His Prostate Cancer Battle
Chris Hughton, former coach of Ghana’s Black Stars and Newcastle United, revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. The 67-year-old, who played for Tottenham, West Ham and Brentford before moving into management, underwent surgery to remove his prostate in May. He says his recovery has been strong and he feels full of energy one year after the operation. Hughton stressed the importance of staying active and keeping the mind engaged during rehabilitation. He describes his prognosis as very positive and says he’s in a good place both physically and mentally. With one in eight men affected by prostate cancer—and the risk twice as high in black men—Hughton hopes that sharing his experience will encourage early testing and raise awareness in the black community.
