Zimbabwe Court Orders Woman to Refund $2,500 After DNA Test Proves Man Isn’t the Father
A court in Hwange, Zimbabwe, has ordered a woman to repay US$2,500 in child maintenance after DNA results confirmed her former partner was not the biological father. Clean Nyathi had supported the child for years, increasing payments from US$40 to US$60 monthly and even funding the DNA test himself at a cost of about US$450. Nyathi said he questioned paternity since 2014 but faced resistance until the test finally proved his suspicion. He paid maintenance until the court compelled Cynthia Dube to refund the total amount within seven days, although she claims she cannot raise the money in that timeframe. Dube explained she was already pregnant when she and Nyathi began their relationship, and delays in testing prolonged their dispute. Nyathi warns he will return to court if she fails to repay the funds.
