Digital Justice Foundation Demands INEC Disclose Forensic Report on Prof. Amupitan’s Alleged X Account
The Foundation for Digital Justice has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking full disclosure of its recent forensic investigation into an alleged X account linked to the commission’s chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan. In an FOI letter dated April 21, the group requested a certified copy of the full forensic report, the identity and credentials of the cybersecurity expert or firm engaged, contract terms, payment breakdowns, and related procurement records. It urged INEC to comply within the seven-day timeframe set by the FOI Act. The probe follows INEC’s announcement that all posts attributed to the alleged account were fake and forensically unverifiable. The controversy began after social media users circulated screenshots claiming partisan comments came from Prof. Amupitan’s X handle. The foundation warned that failure to provide the information could lead to legal action to enforce transparency and accountability. According to a report by a Nigerian news outlet.
