AEFUNAI Hosts 5th OWSD Southeast Conference to Turn Women’s Research into Sustainable Impact
Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike hosted the 5th Biennial Conference of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) South East Nigeria. Participants included scholars, researchers, policymakers and students from across the country. Held in the university senate chambers, the theme was "Women in Science Translating Research into Real Impact for Sustainable Development." Speakers explored how women scientists can drive innovation, commercialize research and tackle challenges in climate change, food security and healthcare. In his opening remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu praised OWSD’s dedication to excellence in scientific research and gender inclusion. He pledged support for initiatives that address societal needs and fuel national transformation. Highlights included a science quiz for secondary school girls, with Faith Academy emerging the winner. The conference ended with renewed commitments to empower women researchers and advance science-driven solutions for sustainable development.
