‘I Wish I Was There’: Oputa on Missing Rangers’ Record Ninth NPFL Title Celebration
Enugu Rangers clinched a dramatic 2-1 win over Ikorodu City in Lagos to secure their record-equaling ninth NPFL crown. Streets in both Enugu and Lagos erupted in celebration. Defender Chibueze Oputa watched the finale from Super Eagles camp in London. He admitted feeling envious as he saw his teammates lift the trophy without him. Speaking to Pulse Sports Nigeria, Oputa said: “I wish I was there to play the final game with the team, but God is good. Even from London, my heart was with the boys.” He plans to bring that championship energy to his next match under coach Eric Chelle. Oputa’s consistent domestic form earned him a national team call-up. Known for his pace, defensive discipline and set-piece threat, he now aims to lock down the right flank when Nigeria faces Zimbabwe.
