FG Launches Electronic Pharmacy Regulation Platform to Strengthen Oversight
Prof. Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, inaugurated the new Electronic Pharmacy Regulation Platform in Abuja. Championed by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, the system will regulate digital pharmaceutical services and boost public health outcomes. The minister highlighted longstanding regulatory challenges in pharmacy practice. He expressed optimism that the platform’s evidence-based monitoring will improve oversight, accountability and drive innovation and investment in the health sector. PCN’s Registrar, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, noted that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed inefficiencies in drug supply chains and accelerated digital adoption. The 2026 Electronic Pharmacy Regulations now provide a legal framework for licensing, operation and oversight of online pharmacy services, ensuring patient safety and ethical standards.
