Ikogosi Warm Springs: A Model of Local Investment and Renewable Energy for Sustainable Tourism
Journalists attending a media immersion at Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in Ekiti discovered a long-term vision built on local expertise, renewable energy and community impact. Beyond the famous warm and cold springs, the resort offers hiking trails, sports courts, a treehouse with board games and hidden rock speakers that fill the air with music. Since 2022, Glocient Hospitality has transformed an uninhabitable site into a thriving destination using only Nigerian artisans and skills. Facing monthly diesel bills of over ₦46 million, the company invested US$200,000 in solar panels and batteries, delivering 12 hours of clean power daily and saving more than ₦500 million a year. A US$2 million expansion will add new guest rooms, staff accommodation and extra renewable energy capacity to meet growing group booking demand. The resort now employs over 230 locals—60% from host communities and nearly 70% women—and uses on-site farming and waste recycling to support its kitchens and livestock. By prioritising patience, reinvestment and local talent, Ikogosi Resort aims to become a model for sustainable tourism and rural economic transformation in Nigeria.
