Denied Boarding: Lufthansa Employee Calls Passenger 'Naked' Over Heatwave Outfit

Denied Boarding: Lufthansa Employee Calls Passenger 'Naked' Over Heatwave Outfit — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Edda Pilz, known online as Edda Elisa, says she was halted at the boarding gate of a Lufthansa flight during a European heatwave. She wore sports shorts and a crop top to stay cool, but an employee told her she “had nothing on” and appeared “naked.” After fetching a jacket and fully zipping it up, she was allowed to board. Edda accepted the rules but questioned why guiding policies were not made clear in advance. Lufthansa later stated the staff would not use those exact words and reaffirmed that passengers must wear attire “appropriate to the character of a public journey.” The airline said it takes such reports seriously and reviews each case internally. Many airlines reserve the right to refuse boarding over “inappropriate” clothing to prevent conflicts, ensure safety and maintain hygiene. However, what qualifies as acceptable attire often depends on staff discretion.

What do you think about airline dress codes during extreme heat? Is it fair to enforce such strict policies on passengers?

I also think airlines should adapt rules for heatwaves. Strict dress codes feel unfair when passengers just want to stay comfortable.

It seems odd that a brief jacket retrieval solved everything, yet the initial reaction was so harsh and embarrassing for the passenger.

Maybe passengers should check airline dress codes before traveling instead of blaming staff immediately when policies aren't well known.

Next time, opting for lightweight layers or a soft wrap could avoid issues while staying cool, and align with airline standards.
