FG Pledges N217bn to Boost Medical Education and Healthcare Training
The Federal Government has committed over N217 billion in two years to strengthen medical education and healthcare training across Nigeria. This initiative, announced by the Minister of Education, aims to expand training capacity through infrastructure upgrades, new teaching facilities and modern simulation-based learning centres. It follows a N97 billion investment in 2025 and an additional N120.5 billion approved for 2026 under Special High Impact Projects. The plan includes establishing Medical Simulation and Technology Centres, enhancing research through a new National Research and Innovation Development Fund and supporting precision medicine, cancer genomics and artificial intelligence in Nigeria’s medical schools. The University of Lagos Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, which has launched a N1 billion Endowment Fund, hosted the inaugural international conference to discuss partnerships that will drive excellence in biomedical research and training.
