NRC Rolls Out New Cleaning SOP for Safer, More Comfortable Train Services
The Nigerian Railway Corporation has launched a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for cleaning trains and stations nationwide. The initiative aims to raise sanitation standards and improve passenger safety, comfort and service quality across the network. Managing Director Kayode Opeifa unveiled the framework at a workshop in Lagos, organised by the corporation’s Business Processes, Efficiency and Due Diligence unit. He said sanitation is now a core component of modern rail operations rather than just a support service. The workshop brought together cleaning contractors from across the country to align them with uniform Quality Control Cleaning Codes. Opeifa stressed that punctuality alone is not enough; maintaining clean stations and coaches is key to sustaining public confidence in rail travel. Contractors will be evaluated on their adherence to the new guidelines. The SOP also prepares them for opportunities on upcoming rail corridors, including Kano–Kaduna, Ibadan–Osogbo–Ilorin and Enugu–Aba lines.
