Post-Match Brawl: NWFL Bans Ekiti and Pacesetter Queens Players for Two Games

Post-Match Brawl: NWFL Bans Ekiti and Pacesetter Queens Players for Two Games

The Nigeria Women Football League has suspended two players for violent conduct after a fight following Ekiti Queens’ 2-0 win over Pacesetter Queens at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium. Teslimot Balogun of Pacesetter Queens and Busari Suliyat of Ekiti Queens clashed immediately after the final whistle. The league reviewed referee and match commissioner reports, along with video evidence, before imposing two-match bans starting from Matchday 16. NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi warned that future incidents could attract harsher punishments, including indefinite bans for any player or official found guilty of misconduct. The league reiterated its zero-tolerance policy to protect the integrity of the game and the safety of all participants.

What does this suspension signal for player discipline across the NWFL?

This ban clearly shows NWFL means business about fairness and conduct on the pitch.

This ban feels specific to that incident. Hard to assume it changes NWFL's overall discipline standards.

It feels unlikely that suspending just two players will prevent future skirmishes after intense matches.

I'm not convinced a two-match ban actually addresses the cause of these on-field brawls.

Teams should organize post-match debriefs and anger management workshops to prevent future clashes.
