1 / 2

US actor Carl W. Crudup passed away at his ranch in Littlerock, California, on January 10 after a long fight with prostate cancer. His family said he ‘found peace and joy’ on the ranch, where he lived as both actor and farmer. They described the property as his sanctuary, surrounded by nature and the goats he loved. Over a five-decade career, Crudup appeared in J.D.’s Revenge, The Rockford Files, Better Things, ER and many more. He made his Broadway debut in 1975’s The First Breeze of Summer and landed his first film role in Karel Reisz’s The Gambler. Colleagues praised his kindness, enthusiasm and storytelling. He inspired young actors, earned respect on every set and leaves behind a legacy of compassion and talent.

I agree, living close to nature must have chilled him out after those hectic Hollywood days.

Are you assuming the ranch life alone brought him tranquility, or might stepping away from stardom have been the real key?

It's interesting how the media focuses on his ranch life rather than his film roles in obituaries.

I'm not convinced every actor needs a rural hideaway; success in LA circuits brought him more recognition than a quiet ranch could.

We can honor his memory by promoting prostate cancer screenings and supporting research that benefits men over fifty.
